Utilizing Common Read Programs to Build Culture in the Literacy Classroom

Day 1, Session 1 - July 25, 12:30-1:30pm
Day 2, Session 1 - July 26, 12:30-1:30pm

Stressors related to navigating new school spaces and levels can become barriers to the teaching and learning process for 9th grade students. The Common Read provides a shared experience of intellectual and community engagement by bringing a campus/classroom community together to read and discuss one text and its themes. The goals for this session include utilizing the common read to impact student academic transition to high school, and foster civility by exploring different views and experiences.
