Bio

Octavia Gray EssexOctavia Gray-Essex earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at Kansas State University where she also serves as a K-State College of Education Graduate Teaching Fellow. She is a member of the International Literacy Association (ILA), Texas Association for Literacy Educators (TALE), Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. This is her 17th year in Fort Worth ISD and prior to joining the Division of Teaching and Learning, she served in the role of Principal, Assistant Principal, Elementary Literacy Specialist, Data Analyst/Testing Coordinator, and classroom teacher. 

Mrs. Gray-Essex is a literacy advocate with a passion for guiding and supporting effective literacy practices while removing barriers that impede student achievement.
