Crafting our stories: Facilitating writing through language learning
Day 2, Session 1 - July 26, 12:30-1:30pm
Literacy is more than developing skills. Improving the field’s understanding of the language and literacy development of young ELs’ language and literacy skills is critical (Scarborough, 2001; Snow et al., 1998).
In addition, educators of English learners support and develop their students’ literacy
practices daily while developing meaning centered on their stories, cultures, and
daily life experiences
(Shanahan & Neuman, 1997).
This session will guide participants in understanding the stages of language development related to the stages of writing to support students in crafting and writing their stories.
