FORT WORTH, Texas — More than 100 participants gathered on March 1 for the #EmpowerHer: Women's Economic Symposium at Texas Christian University (TCU). The symposium, organized by TCU TRiO Progams, aimed to empower and educate attendees about career development, marketplace acumen, economic independence, and the unique challenges faced by women of color, first-generation students, non-traditional students, queer individuals, caregivers and those with diverse intersectional identities.
Key topics discussed included effective strategies for negotiating salaries and benefits, innovative approaches to saving and investing for financial stability, and navigating economic and financial barriers. The symposium also provided a platform to increase awareness of resources available to TCU students and community members.
Speakers and panelists shared invaluable insights and practical strategies for workplace success and financial management. Featured speakers included Professors Rosemarie Fike and Ann Tasby, and Monique Winfree, Vice President & Ft. Worth Community Manager for JP Morgan Chase.
Reflecting on the event, Tamika Miller, TRiO Student Support Services Advisor at TCU, stated, "As we reflect on the positive feedback received, including a statement that it was the best event ever attended at TCU, we are reminded of the importance of providing resources and support to our diverse student population."
The Women's Economic Symposium marks a significant step forward in TCU's ongoing efforts to empower and educate its students, laying the groundwork for future initiatives aimed at fostering inclusivity and support for all learners.
