MBA/Ed.D. Educational Leadership Joint Program
The Ed.D. in Educational Leadership is a 60-hour degree program aimed at enabling students to successfully engage in a range of professional activities, from working as a leading practitioner in the EC-12 educational context, to the corporate training or educational world, to leadership in athletics-related endeavors. Students take a variety of graduate courses and field-based experiences to prepare for the qualifying examination and the completion of a capstone project or dissertation.
The Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership is a 63-hour program combining a common core, inquiry courses, a cognate area, practical experience, and a capstone project. The program is designed to prepare students for leadership roles in a variety of higher education institutional settings. The program will provide a professional degree to improve the practice of those engaged in administrative functions in higher education.
Students interested in the MBA/Ed.D. in Educational Leadership must apply to and be admitted to the Neeley School of Business at TCU prior to being considered for admission to the College of Education. These students should speak to program faculty and consult admissions requirements and deadlines for the Neeley School of Business. Students must also apply and be accepted to the Ed.D. portion of the degree to participate in the joint degree program. Students applying for the MBA/Ph.D. program are encouraged to visit with program faculty in both Neeley and the College of Education to determine whether the joint program will meet the student’s professional goals.
They also must meet all 36 hours of core requirements as well as the START Workshop and the Professional Development Program. At the completion of the first year of the MBA program, students may elect to begin taking coursework in the Ed.D. program. After completion of 42 hours in the College of Education, the student schedules comprehensive examinations (see the Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership Policies & Procedures Handbook for complete details). Upon successful completion of the comprehensive exams, and upon successful defense of the capstone or dissertation proposal, the student will be admitted to candidacy. In the event a student elects to complete the MBA without continuing into the doctoral program, he/she must meet all remaining requirements for the MBA (i.e., 18 elective units in the Neeley School of Business). If a student’s work is unsatisfactory in MBA courses, and he/she is not permitted to continue, he/she may not be permitted to commence the Ed.D. program.
